FIFA field installation: FIFA standard shock pad underlay and TPE infill
Why use shock pad?
Shock pads are considered as one of the most important components of a complete artificial turf system. Shock pads, when combined with high-quality turf and non-compacting infill such as TPE, will add comfort to the user, prolong the life of the synthetic turf and add a layer of cushion during those backyard football games. In this post, we will highlight the main benefits that shock pads provide for landscape and playground turf systems.
A shock pad is a middle layer of padding installed between the sub-base layer and the layer of artificial turf. Shock pads (not to be confused with rigid, plastic drainage layers) are made from different types of foam with varying thicknesses. Our pads vary in thickness between 5mm and 100mm and are designed to let water pass vertically and horizontally. Depending on site conditions, you may select for TAIHUI pad with vertical and horizontal drainage. All of the pads offered by TAIHUI are made from closed-cell foam and do not absorb moisture. Non-absorbing pads are essentially required if you have a dog.
Why artificial turf systems need infill?
1. It requires the use of infill and quartz sand for artificial turf compaction , so to make the turf stable. Under normal conditions, the quartz sand underneath the artificial turf, while the infill on top .
2. As the artificial turf is without any soil, so the players are very prone to get injury when collision or fall due to the high stress on the body. The right amount of elastic rubber infill can effectively simulate the feel of the soil, preventing the injury caused by physical collisions.
3. The artificial turf owns more smooth surface than the natural grass, especially the right amount of filling particles can provide greater friction to the turf surface during the rainy days and can effectively enhance the performance of artificial turf.
Common Q&A:
1.What is the material of shock pad and eco friendly infill?
The material of shock pad is PE resin/polyethylene foam, the material of eco-friendly infill is newly SEBS rubber.
2. What thickness can you make for shock pad?
3. I want to know if this pad will bubble up when the sun hits the turf?Does it expand and contract with temperature changes?
Both thermal expansion and contraction and bubble up are due to the physical properties of the foam material itself, which is very light. We just need to fix the shock pad to the ground base when laying. For concrete ground base, we glue the shock pad from dot to dot. please do not use corrosive glue. And for gravel foundations please use nails to fix to the ground. The turf will be even after the filling (sand + granules) and will be perfect after the players playing on it. Please trust us as we have experience of shock pad installation over 3,000 fields.
